GSoC 2025 fastGPT Proposal

Hi,

My name is Bartu Koksal, currently a junior Computer Science student at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). I am really interested in applying for GSoC 2025 with Fortran-lang.

I am really interested in the project " Improving fastGPT: Making it Faster, Easier to Use, and More General". My current stack of programming languages are: C, C++, Java, Python (with its advanced linear algebra, scientific computing, machine learning/deep learning libraries), and OCaml. I have taken advanced courses in Linear Algebra, Machine Learning, and Numerical Analysis, which I believe could cover the Linear Algebra part of the requirements of the project.

However, I do not have any experience with Fortran, and I would really like to learn it whilst working with such an interesting project. Would it be possible for me to apply with a proposal that also includes my continuous learning of Fortran, whilst developing the project with its checkpoints and targets?

Bartu

I recommend you start by sending several PRs against fastGPT, and then we’ll go from there. If you can contribute to a Fortran project, then you’ll be up to speed and there is no problem. Fortran is easy to learn, you can learn it from Learn — Fortran Programming Language.
