Fortran Monthly Call: June 2022

Dear all,

It’s again time to organise our next monthly call which will be in the week of June 20-24; please see the following doodle poll to mark your availability:

Doodle: Fortran Monthly Call: June 2022

The final time slot will be selected and announced on the evening (European time) of Monday June 13, please complete the poll before then .

If there are specific topics or issues you would like to raise, even if you are unable to attend the call, please post them in the thread here.

As usual, we will record this call and make it available online.

All the best,

Jeremie

I have a few things that people might be interested discussing:

  1. Modern Fortran v3.0 release for VS Code, impressions and roadmap (fingers crossed it should be out by then)
  2. Feasibility and general discussion on a Fortran lecture series from fortran-lang endorsed by institutions and summary of my discussion with the people from Imperial College’s Graduate School, see: Update on Fortran lecture series

I would prefer if 2. was done outside of the recording for a number of reasons (freely express opinions, privacy concerns, too early in the process). Let me know if that is possible, otherwise I will try and find another way to communicate the key parts of my meeting with the Graduate School.

I think this would be a good occasion to discuss the progress on the webpage by Henil @henilp105:

Thanks, @jeremie.vandenplas for organizing. I won’t be able to join, please arrange an alternative Zoom/Google Meet venue as my institutional Zoom doesn’t allow external hosts.

Thanks for the heads up.
@awvwgk I believe that you organised a Zoom venue once. If correct, could you organize a new one, please?

Current agenda:

  1. GSoC’22: Port fortran-lang.org to Sphinx (@henilp105, @awvwgk)
  2. Modern Fortran v3.0 release for VS Code (@gnikit)
  3. Fortran lecture series (@gnikit; preferably outside recording)

Additional items (if enough time):

  1. stdlib
    4.1) demo prgrams (PR 662; @jeremie.vandenplas )
    4.2) Hash maps (PR 611; @jeremie.vandenplas )
