I found this in this document from 1987:
The first attempt at a Fortran logo?
As a more modern version we could use a Möbius strip with the label “Fortran77” on one “side”, gradually morphing to “Fortran2023” on the “other”.
There are many great ideas, but let’s keep our current logo. It’s a great simple design and it was adopted by everybody. I can’t remember, but I think also the LFortran logo was modeled after the Fortran logo. If something works, let’s not touch it.
Maybe use the Moebius band (in modern form!) as a superhero headband and put the F logo on their belt?
Are you thinking about Wonder Woman @arjen?
Well, in my language Formula is female and Translation is female… Even mathematics and “informatique”… So why not Fortran… (but all programming languages seem male, like the word language probably…)
Not Julia.
In French, even Julia and Ada would be considered male, as programming languages… And in German? Male, female, neutral?
Another unofficial logo posted 6 years ago:

“mula slator”… Thanks, no thanks.
Sure, it would be better without the subtitles…
