Comp.lang.fortran used to have an FAQ list edited by Keith Bierman. Faqs.org lists one from January 1997, which gives an idea of where the language stood at the time. Before g95 and gfortran, I think the effective standard was Fortran 77 for many. It was in my PhD research group in 1997.
Was the FAQ linked above the last comp.lang.fortran FAQ? Searching Google Groups comp.lang.fortran for faq did not produce recent hits. Revising the FAQ by updating the answers to old questions and adding new questions could be worthwhile.
