Fortran developer role by Jacobs in Dorchester, England, United Kingdom.

Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Software Developer to work with our ANSWERS® Software Service.

The ANSWERS® Software Service supplies high quality software and consultancy services for customers world-wide in the areas of reactor physics, radiation shielding, dosimetry, nuclear criticality, well logging and nuclear data.

Description

We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in modern software engineering, with experience in Fortran, Java, Python or C/C++, use of modern source control, issue tracking and continuous development systems and technologies such as parallel processing using MPI or OpenMP.

Applicants should be comfortable working on both Windows and Linux and knowledge of high-performance computing systems would be useful.

We can offer the opportunity to work as part of a technical team, working on a broad range of established and cutting-edge applications. Typical tasks may include optimising our codes for use on HPCs or working on the coupling of our codes to third party software to expand the capability and range of applicability of the software.

This role will present excellent opportunities for the continual development of skills and experience in software development, particularly where these are applied to nuclear engineering.

There is the potential to lead technical developments and collaborations, working with the team responsible for their implementation. We also work collaboratively with leading UK universities and can offer the opportunity to publish work and attend international conferences.

This role will be based at our Dorchester office with the opportunity to travel to client sites, as required.

  • An undergraduate degree in computer science, software or physics or other subject with a strong software development component
  • Programming skills in languages such as Fortran, Java, Python and C/C++
  • Ability to think innovatively and to solve complex problems as part of a (multi-disciplinary) team
  • Ability to absorb new technical skills quickly and efficiently

It would be great if you have some work experience in the nuclear industry

Full disclosure my PhD was co-funded by ANSWERS (the group that is hiring) so I am biased, but the team and the people are great!
