Fortran Con or FortranLang webinars?

Are there any plans or talks about reprising the idea of a Fortran Con? I also write C++ code and I find that CppCon videos are sometimes very instructive and point out very cool language features and use cases.

Even monthly webinar series showcasing new tools would be amazing.

I think doing a FortranCon would be a nice idea, I’ve seen it done before and it would be nice to continue it. Maybe a FortranCon 2025 should be proposed with a call for abstracts?

It would very very cool. Maybe set it up in a way that there’s Workshops, where new and cool features/packages get shown introductions and advanced how to’s. For example a workshop on the stdlib, the fortran package manager, using cuda-fortran, hipfort etc.

A series of talks on cool language features and tricks that people with loads of years of experience have.

Maybe a “hackathon” where different projects can propose ideas for a one day deep dive on maybe adapting their large project to use the FPM, hacking Lfortran to get it to work with a large application.

Could be a three day conference, sponsors could be found from the usual suspects.

The FortranCon 2020 and 2021 were organized by the University of Zurich (but online due to Covid):

The https://tcevents.chem.uzh.ch/ site where details were available seems now offline.

But the videos are still on the YouTube channel:

A 18 months periodicity was mentioned for the following events, but finally nobody took the torch.

It’s a big endeavor to organize a conference. I wonder if it would be a good idea to first do it online, get a gauge and then try to do an in-person one? or just, go big or go home?

I am in Australia, so I think traveling that far might scare some people away. Or might inspire them more? no idea!
