This post is not about one particular position, but an opportunity to co-develop a PhD project as part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training DiveIn. Fortran would be a suitable language to tackle problems in many of the priority research areas (see list below). Hence the post here. A few people in the list of supervisors also have a Fortran affinity. That includes Wim Vanderbauwhede (who wrote the Glasgow Fortran Source-to-Source Compiler) and myself.
The strategic research areas are:
Global Challenges
- Beyond Net Zero
- Bridging the Digital Divide
- Planetary Health
- Transforming Health and Healthcare
Enabling Technologies
- Advanced Connectivity Technology
- Advanced Materials
- AI and Big Data
- Engineering Biology
- Photonics
- Quantum Technologies
This call is for fully funded, four-year interdisciplinary PhDs starting September 2026.
The application deadline is the 31st of January. You can apply here. For questions about the programme or application procedure, you can contact divein-cdt@glasgow.ac.uk.
