Fortran Monthly Call: June 2020

It’s time to schedule another monthly call. We’re now aiming for the week of June 15-19. If you’d like to join, please mark your availability here:

We’ll choose a time slot that accommodates most people on Friday, June 12.

If there’s a specific issue you’d like to discuss, please reply to this message. Here’s what I’d like us to discuss:

  • Getting users for stdlib and fpm
  • fortran-lang.org tutorials status and next steps

Though our previous call had amazing turnout (> 23!), there were quite a few people that either couldn’t make it or found out about it later and wish they didn’t miss it. This is why this time we’ll try something new: Recording the call and making it available online for later playback. If you object to the call being recorded and if this would mean you would choose not to attend, please let me know. We’ll try to find a solution that works for everybody.

Cheers,
Milan

You may want to post this to the J3 and/or WG5 mailing lists as well. I don’t know how many people are routinely checking Discourse.

I am proposing:

  • I would like to showcase https://github.com/fortran-lang/fortran-lang.org/pull/100 and spend a few minutes discussing why we are doing it and why it is important. Also briefly discuss the background of what it took to start the fortran-lang effort, as the automatic graphs nicely show it. @lkedward can maybe talk about the technical background how it is implemented.

  • LFortran updates

There might be a few more things that will come up until the call.

See you there!

This went really well I thought. I saw 23 participants most of the time. Thanks @milancurcic for organizing this, it is super helpful to get the community together once a month.

I agree. I will post the recording over the weekend for people who couldn’t join.

Thanks for recording… I missed the call because of a power outage at the university; looking forward to the recording! I’m not sure what was discussed, but I’m interested in trying fpm for building a recent project!

The recording of the meeting is now up. Thank you all for making it a success.

As we make more videos–meetings, tutorials, and other kinds–it will be nice to have a dedicated fortran-lang Youtube account.

Go ahead and start the YouTube account. Let’s put this video there.

Done. This was a pain in the neck but useful thing to learn. Video URL didn’t change and view stats and likes are preserved.
