I received an email about confirming my subscription to a mailing list “ukfortran”. As I do not remember requesting such a subscription, nor do I know this mailing list, I wonder if anybody here can enlighten me about it. The suffix “fortran” sounds familiar and trustworthy, but nowadays one has to be careful
Could it be this one JISCMail - COMP-FORTRAN-90 List at WWW.JISCMAIL.AC.UK
Speaking as but one UK resident… never heard of ukfortran, I checked my emails, advise extreme caution, stop; end program
Hm, the name I see in the title is ukfortran@accu.org - so nothing like @themos 's suggestion.
There is a programming organization (with a C++ focus) called ACCU: https://accu.org/
On the WG5 Email List webpage there is a paragraph saying
The UK and USA mailing lists also maintain indexes for their own messages which include sc22wg5 messages. These indexes are continually updated but cover a shorter period than the sc22wg5 index. These links give access: UK (available only to members of the UK list), USA.
The UK link points to the address https://lists.accu.org/mailman/private/ukfortran/
but visiting it I get a 403 Forbidden error.
It does sound a bit suspicious.
Thanks everyone, with this information I can safely ignore the email.
Bit late replying, but ukfortran@accu.org is the mailing just for the BSI IST/5/-/5 Fortran standard committee. Your email might be a fake, but the list is real enough.
