The next major version of Simply Fortran, the development environment and, on Windows, compiler package, has finally been released. The new version adds a number of requested features, including:
- Support for Fortran compilers other than just GNU Fortran
- Language server compatibility
- Windows Subsystem for Linux integration
- Modernized Linux look-and-feel
- Filesystem/project synchronization
The first release of the 4.x series only includes support for a limited number of alternate compilers, notably flang, but more can be added with relative ease. Language server support has proven to be especially helpful in mixed-language or non-Fortran projects within the development environment. Stability has been improved greatly after over a year of development and testing.
Anyone interested can read about the changes in more detail in our blog post about the release.
