So it seems like the code was run in parallel with intel compiler but did not catch any race condition with OpenMP.

Please double check or triple check your tests… I have compiled and run your code with ifort 21 on Linux, and with OpenMP I do not have at all the same results with theta, phi_old and m declared private or not. As expected…
