Gfortran -std=f2008 myfile.f08 gets Error: Fortran 2018:

The full line is:

gfortran -J mod -I mod -std=f2008 -Wall -free-form -O -c -o OBJ/top.o top.f08

GNU Fortran (Debian 12.2.0-14) 12.2.0

How is it that -std=f2008 might be ignored so that 2018 gets mentioned at all? Being overly helpful?

It is non-trivial at the present to upgrade gfortran to try a later version or I would do that before asking.

I made a wrong guess as to the problem and posted it. SHORTLY thereafter the guess was clearly no help and I wanted to delete MY own REPLY. But, I could find no way to do that.

The only thing I can do is EDIT this reply, delete the entire contents (one sentence) and add *something” so it would not be empty. You cannot do anything with an empty post.
