I am an old Fortran programmer who started on ICL Fortran IV, then upgraded to Fortran 66. My early work was in modelling the gravitational expansion of the Universe. I then moved into research for engineering and used Fortran for statistics and Finite Element modelling for stress and temperature flows in various artefacts. My career took a turn into the commercial world, where I used Commercial Fortran, which was an unusual language with excellent string handling as well as precise numerical calculations for finance.

A large part of my career I used other languages such as SAS, R, C, C++, Java, BASIC, RPG, COBOL.

I have returned to Fortran, on retirement, to develop Archeoastronomy calculations. Hopefully this will include novel integer calculations as well as the usual high precision decimals.
