Announcing [wxFortran](https://github.com/jacobwilliams/wxFortran): modern Fortran interface to the [wxWidgets](https://wxwidgets.org) GUI toolkit. Similar to [qt-fortran](https://github.com/jacobwilliams/qt-fortran), this is an AI-assisted creation written in Fortran (there’s a small C++ layer but the user never has to use that directly). So, you can write your GUI completely in Fortran, because why not?

Standard disclaimer: work in progress, experimental, etc.

Not too long ago, there were no open source options for writing sophisticated GUIs in Fortran. I think gtk-fortran was the first? Now we have at least three:

| Name | License | First commit |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [gtk-fortran](https://github.com/vmagnin/gtk-fortran) | GPL-3.0 | 2011 |
| [qt-fortran](https://github.com/jacobwilliams/qt-fortran) | MIT | 2026 |
| [wxFortran](https://github.com/jacobwilliams/wxFortran) | MIT | 2026 |

The MIT licenses are a great thing. Shipping code with GPL/LGPL can be bothersome or scare away certain people

Excellent.

I use Intel Fortran, but it doesn’t have toolbar. I have to draw it with opengl.the benefit is that I can draw icon anywhere I want inside the opengl area.

I have tried to build qt-fortran application with Intel Fortran. But it runs into a problem that it can’t interpret the path of vc tool with space. gFortran is all good.
