We should not attribute arrogance unjustly. Compilers don’t just write themselves. There have been several prompts on this forum to contribute to open-source compilers before if you can.

With commercial compilers the story is different. There I’m afraid that unless you have an official support contract there’s not much you can do other than report errors. But even with freely-available commercial compilers I’d say “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”.

However, I find that nobody will listen until I try to exaggerate a bit about the problems. So I start to be loud and aggressive so that Fortran will continue to exist healthfully.
