**Project Title** : RainX Risk: GPU-Accelerated Modelling of Extreme Rainfall Risks in West Scotland

**Short Description** : This project will identify combinations of factors that increase the risks associated with extreme rainfall in West Scotland. The project will build on advances in extreme value statistics and statistical downscaling and develop GPU-optimised predictive models that are directly coupled to weather forecasts to estimate the probability of extreme rainfall and, ultimately, quantify the associated risks.

**Context:** It builds on a currently developed (Fortran) model for extreme rainfall prediction in the region. It’s part of a larger exascale computing doctoral training programme. You can find more information [here](https://www.exageo.org/phd-student-projects/#project-1915).

@arainer, I wonder if the FF Network has a mechanism for distributing Fortran-specific opportunities or if the support of such a platform is something discussed in the network. On regular platforms, Fortran jobs tend to get lost in a sea of others.

Jobs are often posted in the [Numerical Analysis digest](https://na-digest.coecis.cornell.edu/na-digest-html/26/v26n41.html). Fortran-related announcements could be submitted there.

Happy to circulate the opportunity on the mailing list I have. I assume it’s [this opportunity](https://www.exageo.org/phd-student-projects/#project-1915), specifically.

Correct; that’s the one. Circulation would be appreciated, thanks!
That said, I do wonder if we generally need a better strategy for advertising Fortran-specific job openings.
