What is the planned path forward for this project?
Is it inclusion of OpenGL backend for FIG or developing more capabilities for FIG-plot ?

I believe what the community is most interested in is further development of fig-plot. I’ve already seen someone express interest in continuing this work as a GSoC project.
An OpenGL backend is very interesting, but it might be a bit hard currently.
If there are more people interested in mentoring, please ping me, and I’ll get you involved.
for the records: This statement was too optimistic, despite the improvements there is a lot to do and I support @tapashreepradhan’s application as a mentor
