Dear all,

It’s again time to organise our next monthly call which will be in the week of May 16-20; please see the following doodle poll to mark your availability:

### [Doodle: Fortran Monthly Call: May 2022](https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/elYPPwMa)

The final time slot will be selected and announced on the evening (European time) of **Monday May 9, please complete the poll before then**.

If there are specific topics or issues you would like to raise, even if you are unable to attend the call, please post them in the thread here.

As usual, we will record this call and make it available online.

All the best,

Just so I won’t forget, it would be great if we could discuss VS Code’s [Modern Fortran](https://github.com/fortran-lang/vscode-fortran-support) coming to fortran-lang and how can fortran-lang use it

1. to access a wider audience of novice Fortran programmers
2. as a testbed to fortran-lang’s tools like:
  - `lfortran` for linting
  - interactive `lfortran` in the form of a Jupyter notebook (VS Code has native support for notebooks)
  - `lfortran`'s Language Server (when one is ready)
  - `lfortran` as a compiler for building projects (when that is possible)

You can also ask me things about the v3.0 release of Modern Fortran, although I doubt that is of interest to most as long as the extension works.

I have updated some Wikipedia entries for VS Code to add Fortran to the list of supported languages.

I would like to discuss a few ideas concerning Fortran and C++ interoperability, and how we might use it to our advantage. A few topics this would touch upon include:

- An iterator-compatible container for Fortran arrays in C++
- Leveraging the C++ standard library in Fortran
- Compiler and language enhancements

If I can a late addition, please, @jeremie.vandenplas, which falls under AOB

- I am looking for speakers for the annual BCS Fortran SG meeting, which is held jointly with the Institute of Physics Computational Physics Group in London. The date of which will be in September but I’m hoping to avoid a clash with FortranCon so the date is not set as yet. All being well it will be a physical meeting with some provision for remote attendees (and remote speakers if needed).

You can see the types of talks we have here: [BCS Fortran Specialist Group Past Events 1994 - 2020](https://fortran.bcs.org/pastevents.php)

Thanks.
