There is consternation over who should initiate this poll and their potential hidden motives.

Therefore I have started it.

Any admin, please feel free to edit this post and add whatever relevant information is deemed required for the community to be _ **fully informed** _ when it comes to their non-binding, zero-stakes vote in this online poll.

This has to be done properly. You need to explain the options, give examples. You need to include the option that was passed (`^()`), etc. I don’t have time right now, but I’ll try to do it soon, or you can do it. The above poll will not give us meaningful answers, so I closed it for now. Let’s do it properly. If you want to help, go ahead and propose below the correct questions and options to ask, and write down examples for each. Then we can post it.

If you want content for examples, you can use any of the examples (which may or may not be otherwise consistent with the other syntax) from

- the generics repository: [GitHub - j3-fortran/generics](https://github.com/j3-fortran/generics)
- the tutorial I gave most recently: [https://j3-fortran.org/doc/year/24/24-144.pdf](https://j3-fortran.org/doc/year/24/24-144.pdf)
- the examples given in the paper that voted on this: [https://j3-fortran.org/doc/year/24/24-125r5.txt](https://j3-fortran.org/doc/year/24/24-125r5.txt)
- or any other example you think might illustrate some important aspect of this syntax element

But I agree with @certik , the question “what symbol do you like?” in the abstract is not sufficient.

Feel free to delete this thread. As I wrote here: [Generics in Fortran 202Y: Petition to WG5? - #77 by tyranids](https://fortran-lang.discourse.group/t/generics-in-fortran-202y-petition-to-wg5/8255/77) this was the expected response.
