TypeSafe AI, an AI company that today announced their new fast frontier model for structured outputs, uses images of FORTRAN punch cards in their webpage art. It both looks cool, and I think is in the spirit of their mission which to me reads like “back to basics”.

R.I.P., and thank you to Fran for her contributions to compilers and thank you for sharing this obituary. It is surprising to see how the burden of student loan debt reaches back so many decades. Perhaps in Fran’s case there was a positive in that the debt led to a rewarding career at IBM?
